Questions

Questions about vitals and timeline

What are body metrics?

Body metrics are measurements such as weight, height, waist size and body mass index. They help you and your care team track changes over time.

What is BMI?

BMI is a number worked out from your weight and height. It is a quick screening tool and does not show how much of your weight is muscle or fat, so it is only one piece of the picture.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

No. It can be misleading for very muscular people, older adults and some ethnic groups. Your care team can tell you what it means for you.

Why does my weight change during the day?

Food, drink, salt, exercise and even the clothes you wear can move the number by a few pounds. Weigh yourself at the same time and in similar conditions for useful trends.

How often should I update my measurements?

Update them when you are measured or when something important changes. Regular, consistent entries are more helpful than frequent one-off ones.

What is waist measurement used for?

Waist size is one way to look at where the body carries weight. Your care team can explain what it means alongside your other results.

Should I be worried about a small change?

Small ups and downs are normal. Talk to your care team if you see a large change you cannot explain, or if you are losing or gaining weight without trying.

Where do I record height and weight?

Enter them in the Body metrics section. Keep the units consistent so your history stays easy to read.
